About Us - Paul & Monica Geppert

Hello. We are Paul Geppert and Monica Geppert and our boat name is Moonshadow. Moonshadow is a Tayana Vancouver 42 foot sailboat. She is a semi custom yacht with a haul number of 145. She is a black haul boat with gray topside and a canoe stern. She has three sails which are main, staysail, and genoa. She has a six foot draft and weighs about 36,000 pounds. Down below she came equipped with two rather large cabins, one head, separate shower, refrigeration, freezer, 3 burner stove, auto pilot, sea chest, lots of storage space, head clearance of six foot, plus much more. She holds 160 gallons of water and 120 gallons of diesel. She is a beautiful and comfortable boat. For the last three years some of our major projects have been steps of a major refit to include unstepping the mast, replacing all running rigging, replacement of four sails, installation of monitor wind vane, diesel generator, reverse osmosis water system, batteries, and safety equipment.

Paul and I have been together for about seven years and married for almost two years. Paul has been sailing for 18 years. I had no sailing experience before him; however after the first time out on the Jeanneu 34, New Broom, I fell in love with it. Since then I have a total of 7 years learned knowledge of sailing. We worked on New Broom updating systems for about four years. After sanding ten years of bottom paint off of New Broom, Paul of course said to me that he would like a large sea worthy boat to start the dream of cruising soon. I looked at him and said well you better buy the dream boat you want now so we can do all the projects all over again on the boat you want to go on.

So, we looked at Moonshadow about five months later. The first time we looked at her, Paul said whatever you do don’t act interested!!! Well, by the end of that day we had reach an agreement to purchase her and our dream is now becoming reality!!!

After all the hard work we have been doing we feel like we are ready to start our adventure. So, we decided to join up with the Caribbean 1500 2010 cruising rally. We have been taking extensive classes and seminars to get us ready. We have taken a first responders course through the Annapolis School of Seamanship, great class. Also we have been taking numerous courses through the United Stated Sail and Power Squadron. Paul is a past commander of our local Squadron, Susquehannock Sail & Power Squadron. We are both active members. We also went to the Caribbean 1500 ocean sailing seminar ran by Steve Black in April 2010 in Annapolis, Md. There were numerous speakers with great information to share. To the islands we shall go!

Thanks for following us!
